AP Exam FAQ
FAQs for the 2025 AP Exam
Before Registration
A. Only high school-affiliated students can take exams, at either their own enrolled high school or at other AP-authorized high schools and test centers.
“High school-affiliated” means:
- students actively enrolled at a high school, or
- high school-level students who are homeschooled, participate in independent study, and/or attend virtual schools; and
- any actively enrolled students who may be prepared to take an AP Exam prior to the ninth grade, or
- recent high school graduates who need a specific AP Exam for university admission.
Candidates testing with Fulbright Commission (South Korea): Students must also be under the age of 21 (Born on or after June 1, 2004) at the time of the exams in May 2025.
A. Starting with the 2025 AP Exams, 28 subjects will be administered as digital exams. This applies to all AP schools and test centers worldwide. For more details, please refer to College Board’s announcement and the Fulbright Korea’s AP News.
- Digital AP Exams are not at-home exams. As before, students must physically attend their school or test center to take the exam.
- (Important) Students taking these exams must bring a device with the Bluebook application installed on the exam day.
- For the 28 subjects offered as digital AP Exams, paper-based options will no longer be available. (However, students with approved accommodations may still take the exam in paper-based format.)
The AP Chinese Language and Culture and AP Japanese Language and Culture exams will continue to be administered on test center computers, as in previous years.
The AP Exam administration for exams with audio components (AP World Languages, AP Spanish Literature and Culture, AP Music Theory) and exams consisting solely of portfolio assessments (AP Art and Design subjects, AP Research) is remaining unchanged for the May 2025 AP Exam administration.
A. Subjects not listed on the schedule are either not offered or are offered only on the Standard or Late Testing schedule by Fulbright Korea. You will need to check with other AP test providers (schools) in Korea to see if they offer the subject and if they allow external students to register for the exam.
Fulbright Korea also offers AP Research and AP Art and Design subjects (AP Drawing, AP 2-D Art and Design, AP 3-D Art and Design). These subjects do not have end-of-course exam.
- AP Research students must submit their final performance tasks by April 30, 2025, 11:59 PM (ET).
- AP Art and Design students must submit images of their work online by May 9, 2025, 8:00 PM (ET).
As with other subjects, you can register for these exams through the Fulbright Korea AP registration page.
A. You will need to contact the respective schools directly to inquire whether they permit external students to register for the exam.

AP Exam Registration
A. If your school does not have an AP School Code, please use the Homeschool Code for your region. You can find your Homeschool Code here.
A. The AP Registration Password will be created when you first register for the exam at Fulbright Korea. It is used in the Fulbright Korea AP Registration System, managed by Fulbright Korea. This system allows you to check the status of your registration (such as payment confirmation and registration status) and review the personal information you provided.
If you have registered for an AP exam through KAEC after 2023-24 academic year, you can retrieve your personal information by entering the email address and AP Registration Password you previously set up and clicking the “Load Information” button.
For students registering for AP exams through KAEC for the first time, you can proceed without clicking the “Load Information” or “Sign In” buttons. In this case, the AP Registration Password you create will be newly set.
Please note that the AP Registration Password is different from the password for your College Board account. Make sure to create a password that is easy to remember.
A. Exams marked as “No seats available” during the registration period are fully booked and closed. However, if other test-takers cancel their registration for that exam during the registration period, canceled seats will be added, and registration will automatically reopen. We recommend monitoring seat availability regularly. Please note that a waiting list is not available.
A. The number of seats for each exam is fixed, and no new seats will be added during the 2nd registration period. The seats available during the 2nd registration are the remaining seats after subtracting the number of registrations during the 1st registration period.
If an exam is fully booked during the 1st registration period, the seat availability for that exam for the 2nd registration period will be 0. However, if students cancel their registration before the 2nd registration period ends, canceled seats will be added, and registration will automatically reopen.
A. After submitting the exam registration form, the bank details will be displayed, and this information will also be sent to the student’s and guardian’s email. Please refer to this information to complete the payment. Credit card payments are not supported.
A. There may have been an issue with the email or message delivery, or the payment confirmation could not be processed because the sender’s name does not match the student’s name. Please contact us via phone (02-3275-4000, Press 2) or email (testing@fulbright.or.kr) for assistance.
A. The AP Join Code is a registration method commonly used in AP schools, allowing students to complete their AP course registration quickly and accurately through their College Board account.
Fulbright Korea did not use Join Codes until 2024 academic year. However, starting with the 2025 AP exams, we are providing individual Join Codes to help students correctly complete their exam registration in their accounts and take the exam without any issues.
- You can find your Join Codes in the “Review My AP Registration” link in the email you received or by logging into the Fulbright Korea AP Registration System.
- For instructions on how to enter the Join Code, please refer to College Board webiste or YouTube tutorial.
- If you registered for a Late-Testing exam, your schedule will initially appear as a Standard exam after entering the Join Code. Fulbright Korea will review and change the schedule accordingly.
- Please do not share your Join Code with other students.
A. Right after receiving the payment confirmation, your exam registration may not yet appear in your My AP account.
If you have received an email or message with information about your Join Code, please complete your exam registration using the Join Code. You may refer to the FAQ above (Q. I received a notification to enter an AP Join Code. What is this?) for more details.
If you have not received a Join Code or missed the Join Code deadline, Fulbright Korea will directly upload your exam registration to College Board. Once the upload is complete, we will notify you via email or text message and ask you to check your My AP account.
If you have already entered the Join Code, received an upload confirmation email, or more than two weeks have passed since your payment, but the exam is still not visible, please contact Fulbright Korea via email at testing@fulbright.or.kr for assistance. There may be an issue if your exam has already been registered at another school or if the information you used to register with Fulbright Korea differs from the information in your College Board account. In such cases, we can assist you with completing your registration or guide you on requesting an account merge from College Board.
A. If your payment has not yet been processed, you can update your information yourself. Please log in to the Fulbright Korea AP Registration System using your College Board Email Address and the AP Registration Password you set during registration. Until your payment is processed, you can modify your personal information and add or remove subjects through Fulbright Korea. If you prefer, you may also contact us via email at testing@fulbright.or.kr, providing your basic information (name/date of birth) along with the details you wish to correct.
If your payment has been processed but your exam registration has not yet been uploaded to College Board, you can still request changes by emailing testing@fulbright.or.kr with your basic information (name/date of birth) along with the details you wish to correct.
If your exam registration has already been uploaded to College Board, you must request the change directly through College Board.
If you are unsure about your current registration status, please contact Fulbright Korea for assistance.
After Registration
A. You can request a cancellation and refund through the Fulbright Korea AP Registration System. Click Reg.#, select the exam you wish to cancel, and click “Cancel Registration” button. Enter your bank details for the refund, and submit the request. Notifications regarding your submission, cancellation notification, and refund notification will be sent to the student’s and parent’s email.
Please carefully review the refund policy and refund amount before submitting your cancellation request. Once the cancellation request is submitted, your reserved exam seat will be automatically canceled, and re-registration may not be possible or may require additional fees.
If you have not yet completed your payment, you can use the “Edit” button in the Fulbright Korea AP Registration System to remove unpaid exams or add new subjects.
A. Fulbright Korea operates AP Exam-only and is not affiliated with AP Classroom. Students taking AP courses at their schools may request access to AP Classroom resources from their AP teachers. However, if you registered for the exam-only through Fulbright Korea, you will not have access to AP Classroom resources.
A. You may change your exam schedule within the same registered subject under the following conditions:
– Changing from Late-Testing to Standard: Allowed until March 15, 2025
– Changing from Standard to Late-Testing: Allowed until April 30, 2025
– The exam you wish to change to must have available seating. Additional fees (e.g., late-testing fee, schedule change fee) may apply.
– How to Request a Date Change: Email Fulbright Korea at testing@fulbright.or.kr with your basic information (name, date of birth, etc.) and the subject you wish to change. Before requesting a change, ensure that your new exam schedule does not conflict with other registered exams.
Changing to a different subject is NOT allowed. If you need to take a different exam, you must cancel your existing exam and register for the new subject within the registration period. Please refer to the exam cancellation FAQ above.
Taking the AP Exam
A. There are no penalties for a No-Show. However, depending on the cancellation request date, you may receive a partial refund, and other candidates will be able to take the exam. If you do not plan to take the exam, please submit a cancellation request. Cancellations and refunds can be requested through the Fulbright Korea AP Registration System. Please review the refund policy and refund amounts before submitting the cancellation. Once the cancellation is processed, you may not be able to re-register for the exam. Starting three weeks before the exam, you do not need to submit a cancellation request; simply not attending the exam will be treated as a cancellation.
A. Please make sure to review What to Bring on AP Exam Day and calculator policies.
- Identification: An ID that verifies your identity with your name, date of birth, and photo. If you are a resident of South Korea, please present a valid passport, national ID card, student ID, or driver’s license. If you are testing outside your country, please present your passport.
- Testing device (important): A device with the Bluebook application installed and functioning. (For Digital AP exams only.)
- Pencils (no mechanical pencils), pens (black or blue ink pens). Rules for writing utensils may vary by exam and should be followed according to the exam regulations and instructions provided by the proctor on the exam day.
- Other materials required for specific exams (e.g., calculators, rulers).
There is no admission ticket.
A. There is no admission ticket required for the exam day at the Fulbright Korea testing center. Please check your exam registration on the My AP page of your College Board account. If it shows that you are not registered for the exam, please contact us via email at testing@fulbright.or.kr.

A. Most exams will be tested at Fulbright Korea testing center (23 Baekbeom-ro 28-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Fulbright Building). Upon arrival, you will find a student roster on the left side of the building entrance. Please check your name and the assigned testing room on the roster. Parents are not allowed to enter the building.
For some exams, the exam will be administered at Shilla Stay Mapo B1F Meeting Room. Please refer to the page for more details.
A. The exam duration varies by subject, but it typically takes around 3-4 hours. For exams starting at 8:00 AM, they usually end between 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM. For specific exam times, please refer to the detailed information for each exam on the College Board website. Additionally, please take into account break times and check-in procedures, which may cause the exam to finish about 30 minutes to 1 hour later than the scheduled duration.
A. Yes, it is possible to take both the morning and afternoon exams at Fulbright Korea testing center. After the morning exam ends, the exam room is cleaned for about 20-30 minutes before the afternoon exam begins, so the schedules do not overlap. Once the morning exam ends, you can check the roster at the building entrance and head to the assigned room for the afternoon exam. However, it is difficult to have lunch outside, so please bring a snack with you to eat before the afternoon exam starts.
A. Parking is not available inside the building. Please use the nearby public parking facilities.
A. Presenting a copy of the ID (such as a photocopy or a photo of the ID) is not allowed under any circumstances. The original ID must be shown to the proctor, and it must match the name, date of birth, and photo on the ID. The ID must also be valid on the exam day.
A. AP Exam scores are evaluated across administrations and statistically adjusted for form difficulty differences to ensure that the same standards are applied across administrations, regardless of the mode of testing.
A. Students can only move back through a section or part when they’re in it. Once they complete the section or part, they can’t go back into it.
A. The digital exam imposes no limit to the number of characters that a student can enter in their response.
A. Yes. The Bluebook testing app is available to download now. Once the app is installed, students can go to Practice and Prepare to access test previews. Test previews for some subjects are available now, and previews for all digital AP Exams will be available later in the school year. Each test preview includes sample AP multiple-choice and free-response questions. Students can try test previews as many times as they wish to become familiar with the testing tools in the app. Test previews are untimed and students won’t receive scores or any feedback on their answers.
A. For the 16 fully digital AP Exams, students complete multiple-choice questions and free-response sections in Bluebook. For more information about these exams, see Digital AP Exams.
A. For the 12 hybrid digital AP Exams, students complete multiple-choice questions and view free-response questions in Bluebook. They handwrite their free-response answers in paper exam booklets that are returned for scoring. For more information about these exams, including sample free-response booklets, see About Hybrid Digital AP Exams.
A. Free-response booklets for some AP subjects (Biology, Chemistry, the Physics subjects, Precalculus) will contain graphs or diagrams for students to write their responses on.
A. All reference materials will be in Bluebook. For AP Chemistry only, College Board will also be sending schools a printed handout of the periodic table that students can use on exam day.
A. Students can use Windows and Mac laptops (notebooks), iPads with keyboards, and Windows tablets. Go to Device Readiness for more details.
All devices must be brought by the test taker. Please ensure that the Bluebook app is working properly on your device before the exam. Additionally, bring your device’s charger. At testing rooms managed by the Fulbright Korea, power outlets are available at every seat.
A. Power outlets are available at every seat in testing rooms managed by Fulbright Korea. However, charging cables will not be provided, so please bring your own.
A. Fulbright Korea have completed the necessary facilities to ensure a stable Wi-Fi environment for the exam, and the exam will be prepared according to the AP Exam checklist.
The Bluebook application is designed to allow you to continue the exam without interruption, even if the internet connection is lost during the test. Students’ answers are encrypted and saved on the device’s hard drive. Your device must be connected to the internet when starting the exam and when submitting your answers at the end of the exam. However, you can take the exam without any issues if the internet connection is lost during the exam. Please note that during the exam (including breaks), you should not close your laptop or tablet cover.
After the exam, students will follow the proctor’s instructions to check submission status before dismissal. In case of a widespread internet outage for an extended period or another unforeseen issue that prevents automatic answer submission at the end of the exam, students will have up until 4 days after the exam to find an internet connection and submit their encrypted responses.
A. Students need an internet connection to start the exam and submit answers when their exam ends, but they can keep testing if they lose their connection momentarily.
