For the May 2025 AP Exam administration, the exams for some AP subjects will be delivered digitally.
The College Board has been introducing a digital exam format starting with the International SAT in the spring of 2023.
Starting with the May 2023 AP exams, digital exams for some subjects were partially implemented in certain regions within the United States. By May 2025, some AP subjects will transition to fully digital exams worldwide.
(Note: The May 2024 AP exams currently open for registration will not include digital exams, except for AP Chinese Language and Culture and AP Japanese Language and Culture, which will be taken as computer-based exams in school or the test center.)
If you have taken the digital SAT exam, you may already be familiar with the Bluebook application. The digital AP exams in 2025 will also be administered using this Bluebook application.
However, it is important to note that the digital AP exams cannot be taken at home. You will still need to attend your registered school or test center to take the digital AP exams, same as the traditional paper-based AP exams.
The AP exams that will be administered digitally starting in May 2025 are as follows:
- AP African American Studies (only be available for testing in the United States in 2025)
- AP Computer Science Principles
- AP English Language and Composition
- AP English Literature and Composition
- AP European History
- AP Psychology
- AP Seminar
- AP United States History
- AP World History: Modern
All of these exams will be provided in a digital format, and the paper-based exams will only be available to students who have been approved for relevant accommodations by the College Board.
All other AP exams, excluding the ones mentioned above, will continue to be administered as traditional paper-based exams.
Students preparing for the 2025 AP exams are advised to check whether the exams for their intended AP subjects will be paper-based or digital format before studying.
The AP exams that are expected to be administered digitally starting in May 2026 are as follows:
- AP Art History
- AP Comparative Government and Politics
- AP Computer Science A
- AP Human Geography
- AP Latin
- AP United States Government and Politics

Key information regarding the digital AP exams to be administered by the Fulbright AP Testing Center in May 2025 will be published on the Fulbright AP Exam guidance page in the second half of 2024.
