The Fulbright American Studies Program for Korean English Teachers began in 2002 as the Korean counterpart to the U.S. Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) program in Korea. The American Studies Program brings Korean teachers of English to the United States for approximately four to five weeks of graduate-level training in English language education and American Studies. Instruction in English teaching methodology and the diversity of America’s history, culture, society, and education system is coupled with real-world experience, as throughout the program grantees reside with American host families, visit a variety of U.S. educational institutions, and participate in local community activities. Bringing this knowledge back with them to Korea, and to their own classrooms, grantees are able to increase the clarity and accuracy of their teaching on the English language and on the United States. The program recruits participants on a biennial basis.
