Under this binational STEM Initiative, educational exchanges are established for 100 Americans to conduct STEM research and for 100 Koreans to pursue STEM graduate studies, with a focus on emerging technologies.

In a joint statement released after the summit, President Suk Yeol Yoon and President Joe Biden expressed intent to form the largest STEM educational exchange initiative in the history of the Fulbright Scholarship Program. This initiative will focus on supporting research in emerging technologies and related topics within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The Postdoctoral Award was launched for applicants who complete PhD degrees in South Korea in an effort to support the professional, personal, and academic development of aspiring young scholars. The new award is operated under the umbrella of the Visiting Scholar Program.

The Humphrey Fellowship Program for Journalists was launched as part of KAEC’s celebration of the 70^th anniversary of the Fulbright Program in Korea.

Starting with applicants for the 2021-2022 grant year, eligibility for the Visiting Scholar Program was opened to applicants from all disciplines, which allowed KAEC to recruit scholars from STEM fields.

The worldwide Fulbright Program adopts a new logo.

In preparation for the reunification of North and South Korea, KAEC establishes a grant program specifically for North Korean Defectors wishing to complete advanced studies in the U.S.

Fulbright in Korea’s Future: A 60^th Anniversary Commemorative History is published. Multiple events, including a reception, symposium, conference, and gala banquet, are held in honor of the program’s 60^th anniversary.

“Cross-Cultural Visions,” a traveling art exhibition featuring the work of U.S. and Korean Fulbright alumni is hosted in Seoul, New York, and Washington, D.C. in commemoration of the 60^th anniversary of the Fulbright Program in Korea.
